A kidney transplant is a surgical procedure to place a kidney from a living or deceased donor into a person whose kidneys are no longer working properly.
The kidneys remove excess fluid and waste products from the blood. Kidney failure, or end-stage kidney disease, involves the kidneys losing their filtering ability and dangerous levels of fluid and waste products accumulating in your body. A kidney transplant is often the best treatment for kidney failure.
Why a kidney transplant?
Causes of kidney failure disease include:
diabetic
Chronic uncontrolled high blood pressure
Chronic glomerulonephritis
polycystic kidney disease
In end-stage kidney disease, the kidneys cannot filter the blood adequately, and the patient becomes a candidate for a kidney transplant.
