Many women from other countries choose to go to Turkey in order to find solutions to their obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN) problems due to awareness of the increasing standards in their medical facilities as well as medical surgical specialists at more affordable cost than in their own countries.
Turkey has good gynecologists and obstetricians/hospitals
One of the common gynecological and obstetric procedures is cesarean delivery. In fact, Turkey tops the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OCED) list of women who would prefer a cesarean delivery.
The data contradict the popular belief that women generally wish to avoid giving birth by caesarean section. It costs more than natural vaginal delivery and is safer for both the mother and the baby.
Therefore, a study of 400+ was conducted to find out why Turkish women prefer caesarean section even if only 13% of them consider caesarean section to be the ideal mode of delivery.
The study showed that only about 16% of women needed a cesarean delivery and about 84% had no problem with a vaginal delivery. However, more women chose to have a cesarean delivery for the following reasons:
Almost half of women want to avoid the pain of childbirth.
Almost 15% believed that a cesarean delivery was a healthy way of giving birth to a baby. Almost 85% agreed that a vaginal birth is the ideal birth position but only about half of them said they would choose a vaginal birth next time.
About 72% of the women were satisfied with their caesarean section.
Although the study shows the caesarean delivery experience of obstetrics and gynecology treatment in Turkey, the Ministry of Health has an ongoing program to convince women about the benefits of natural childbirth and to discourage childbirth from cesarean delivery.
